Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos” is the largest airport of Greece and the only international airport of Athens. There are several ways to get to Eleftherios Venizelos Athens Airport (ATH) from various locations in Athens.
Taxi
One way, albeit not the most cost-effective, to reach Athens Airport is by taxi. Taxis are readily available throughout Athens and can transport you directly to the airport. The journey typically takes around 30-40 minutes, depending on traffic conditions. During the morning hours, from 5:00 am until midnight, the cost of a taxi is approximately €40/$42, while during other hours, it’s around €55/$58.

Another application for easily finding taxis is UBER. With Uber, you can book a ride easily through the app on your smartphone. You don’t have to wait for a taxi or rely on public transportation schedules. Also Uber provides upfront pricing estimates, so you know how much your ride will cost before you book it. This can help you budget for your trip more effectively.
Metro
The Athens Metro Line 3 (Blue Line) connects the airport with the city center. Trains run approximately every 30 minutes, from early in the morning until late at night every day of the week, and the journey to central Athens takes around 40 minutes. Look for signs indicating “Airport” or “Αεροδρόμιο” (Aerodromio) within the metro stations.
To get to the Airport by metro requires a different ticket from all the other metro destinations. The one-way ticket to the airport costs €9, and if you are entitled to a reduced fare, it costs €4.5.
Furthermore, there is a 3-day tourist ticket valid for 3 full 24-hour periods from its first validation, on all means of OASA jurisdiction: Buses, Trolley, Tram, Electric Railway, Metro (up to Koropi), and on TRAINOSE (in the Suburban Magoula-Piraeus-Koropi section). It also includes a route from and to Athens International Airport with the Metro or the corresponding EXPRESS bus lines. This ticket is also valid on bus line X80 and it costs €20.

How can i buy a metro ticket?
Tickets can be purchased via Ath.ena Ticket and Ath.ena Card from all ticket offices and vending machines as well as online. The ticket office at the Airport station operates every day during Metro operating hours (06:00 – 23:30).
Extra Tip: It’s a good idea not to charge airport tickets to Ath.ena Cards that already have other tickets, as one of the older ones will be used during validation, not the Airport ticket. Buy airport tickets either with a blank Ath.ena Card or a simple Ath.ena Ticket.
Bus
Several bus routes operate between Athens city center and the airport, including the X95 express bus which runs 24/7. The journey duration can vary depending on traffic but generally takes around 45 minutes to an hour.
Just outside the Arrivals area of the airport is where buses depart. On your right, you’ll find the 24-hour ticket booth. The ticket costs €5.50 and if you are entitled to a reduced fare, it costs €2.70. Passengers cannot buy a fare on board the bus so you have to buy a ticket before entering the bus.
There are 4 buses which obtain routes to Athens’s airport:
- Χ93 – Kifissou Intercity Bus Station (KTEL) – Airport: The line takes you from the two long-distance (KTEL) bus stations at Kifissos and Liosion to the airport.
- Χ95 – Syntagma – Airport: The line takes you from the central Syntagma Square of Athens to the Airport.
- Χ96 – Pireaus – Airport: The line takes you from the port of Piraeus to Airport.
- X97 – Metro Station “Elliniko” – Airport: The line takes you from Eliniko Metro station to the Airport. Use it if you are in southern Athens.
Airport Shuttle
Some hotels offer shuttle services to and from the airport for their guests. Check with your accommodation provider if this service is available.
