Near the Red Beach, you’ll discover the White Beach, also known as Aspri Ammos (white sand) – another captivating destination worth exploring! Contrary to its name, the sand on this beach is not white but consists of black pebbles and grey volcanic sand, creating a striking contrast with the white surroundings that gives it a unique charm. The shoreline is shallow, and the crystal-clear waters make it an inviting spot for a refreshing swim!
Due to its small size, there are minimal amenities available, with only a few sunbeds and umbrellas. If planning an extended visit, we advise you to bring cold drinks and sunscreen. Alternatively, you may find a fortunate spot in the partial shade created by the cliffs.
With its serene and relaxed atmosphere, the White Beach offers a departure from the typical seascape. For those seeking privacy amidst stunning surroundings, this beach is an ideal choice. If visiting for a swim, it’s wise to carry all the necessary provisions with you.
How easy is it to visit the White Beach?
The beach is situated in the village of Akrotiri, on the southwest coast of Santorini. It is approximately 14 kilometers away from Fira and in close proximity to the spectacular Red Beach.
“How can someone visit the White Beach?” is a frequently asked question, and the answer is that it’s quite challenging to access independently. The beach is not reachable by car. If you feel adventurous, one option is to visit on foot via a path starting from the nearby Kambia Beach.
Another means of reaching the beach is through taxi boats departing daily from the Red Beach. You’ll easily identify them by the boatmen shouting, “Black Beach, White Beach, Red Beach.” We are sure you will find the way!
The most effortless yet thrilling way to visit the White Beach is through private or semi-private Catamaran or Yacht Cruises available on the island. These boats not only take you to Santorini’s best spots but also offer the chance to swim in beautiful beaches, admire breathtaking scenery, indulge in delicious food, and enjoy complimentary local drinks. Transportation to and from your hotel is also included.
