Holidays in Santorini: Essential Travel Tips for a Smooth Journey

We are here to make your life and your holiday to Santorini as easy as possible. Here, we have gathered all the essential travel tips that you may need during your stay in Santorini.

How to get to Santorini?

By boat: If you plan to travel to Santorini by ferry, daily departures are available from the Port of Piraeus, accommodating both ferries and high-speed catamarans. The ferry journey typically takes 8-10 hours, but opting for the faster route can get you there in about 5 hours. Schedules also include departures from other ports in the Cyclades, the Dodecanese, and Crete. Santorini boasts two ports, with the main port being Athinios and the capital’s port used for short cruises and trips to the volcano and Thirasia.

By plane: During the summer period, there are daily flights from Athens’s Eleftherios Venizelos Airport and other major airports. The journey from Athens takes approximately 45 minutes. Santorini Airport is located in Monolithos, just 5 km away from the capital, and during the summer, it has connections with many airports in European countries.

Can you drink the island’s tap water?

Unfortunately, no, the island’s water is not suitable for drinking. We recommend you buy bottled water instead.

How to move around?

The easiest way to move around Santorini is by bus, with frequent service serving flawlessly even in the period with the highest visitor traffic. Alternatively, you can use a taxi or rent a car for the time you will remain on the island. For trips to the volcano, Thirasia and the surrounding islands there is the possibility of renting a luxury yacht or join team tours with small boats.
